Development of Sustainable Electricity Industry Scenarios for the Greater Mekong Subregion

IES has been retained by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Greater Mekong to undertake a comprehensive assessment on the technical feasibility of low-carbon electricity industry scenarios for each country in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).  GMS countries include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The objective of the project is to improve power sector planning and development in the GMS through a multi-stakeholder participatory planning process.  IES will undertake a comprehensive assessment of each country’s electricity industry including demand growth, renewable energy potential, opportunities for enhancing efficiency, technology options and costs, planning approaches and policy framework.  Based on the assessment, IES will then establish scenarios for the electricity industries of the GMS to the year 2050, to achieve appropriate trade-offs between energy security, energy equity and environmental sustainability.

This work will help the WWF Greater Mekong establish a vision for a low-carbon and sustainable power sector for the GMS.
