AEMC Paper on Price Responsive Consumer Energy Resources
Price responsive consumer energy resources are growing in importance. Not integrating them into the planning process can lead to inefficiencies and additional cost of managing the power system. The IES Advisory Team conducted insightful analysis to the AEMC that quantified the potential benefit from integrating price responsive consumer energy resources into planning in the NEM. The analysis compared the benefits under competing models of integration and provided insights that supported the final rule made by the AEMC.

Frequency performance payments in the NEM
This paper describes the new frequency performance payments arrangements contained in the AEMC rule which is effective from 8 June 2025. IES was engaged by the AEMC and provided analysis that compared various potential arrangements. IES analysis supported the final AEMC rule which aims to provide incentives that encourage energy plants to provide frequency response helpful to the power system. The paper was presented at the 2023 International Council of Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) symposium.
